Thinking of the golden bygone days.
As teens, when we entered colleges and the hostel
food was horrible, students hummed this song
in the same tune as Tagore's salute to the British king,

jan2aGkaLin2 vayiRatil mIRiya paciyE!
   pAruGka ituvE intiyA!
paJcAyp paTTin2i, taruvIGka parOTTA,
   kirAmpuk kaRiyuTan2 kurumA!

When KirupAnanda VAriyAr stayed in our house in India,
he sang jovially to us his song on his beloved
deity, Lord Murukan. Same tune as Tagore's.

   sivaguha kumaraparAcala patiyE
     cIralai vAyuRai nAtA!
   cintUra centaLi pazanApurivAz
     tiruvErakamuRai kantA!

     tAraka mantira viyOtA!
        civamE! civamE! civamE!

Happy holidays for everyone,
