By his lights, `Madhva' is supposed to be a synonym of `AnandatIrtha'
(madhu + va = Ananda + tIrtha), and derived from the baLitthA sukta;
`madhu iti Ananda uddishhTo veti tIrthamudAhR^itaM;
madhva AnandatIrthassyAttR^itIyA mArutI tanuH;
iti sUktagataM rUpatrayametanmahAtmanaH;
yo veda vedavitsAsyAttattvavittatprasAdataH',
