Well, North Indians mostly associate Diwali with the return of Rama to
Ayodhya with his abducted wife Sita. In South Africa, both these versions
are remembered i.e., the South Indians (story of Krishna and Narakaasura)
and the North Indians (the story of Rama's victory over Ravana).
