Subject: Urdu position ad

The Department of South
Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites
applications for a position in Urdu at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer
level (that is, a 3-year or 5-year renewable appointment). The position
will begin in Fall 2000 or Fall 2001.  It is anticipated that the
person appointed will have a completed or near-completed Ph.D. in a
relevant area of Urdu literature or linguistics, prior experience of
teaching Urdu to non-native speakers at both beginning and advanced
levels, and the ability to teach Hindi occasionally at the beginning
level.  Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated
excellence in teaching, and familiarity with contemporary methods and
techniques of language instruction.  An application letter, three
