                   Indian TeX Users Group

The Indian TeX Users Group has been informally launched today
at the academic premises of Department of Mathematics of University of
Kerala, Trivandrum. Prof. KSS. Nambooripad, a world renowned
mathematician and an ace TeX  programmer chaired the session.
He was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Indian TeX Users
Group. Following are the office-bearers of the TUGIndia.

                Dr. Shivkumar, IIT, Bombay
                Dr. P. Rameshkumar (MG University, Kottayam)
                Dr. SRP. Nayar (Inter Univ. Center for Astronomy, Pune)

These constitute the current executive committee. The committee further
resolved to invite three honorouble representives  of the industry which
predominently uses TeX into the executive committee. The current executive
has the balance tilted towards Academy.

A membership fee of Rs. 250 for individuals, Rs. 125 for students and
Rs. 3000 for institutions per annum would be levied. The institutional
membersip includes seven (7) individual subscriptions.

The Indian TeX Users Group proposes to circulate a quarterly newsletter
called TUGIndia, which shall be the official organ. The contents of
the newsletter may range from articles on advanced TeX programming, TeX
implementations, newer macros, developments in markup languages with
special reference to TeX, new software/literature releases that may be
interest to TeX programmers, etc., to courses and seminars organised by
TUGIndia and International TeX Users Group as well.

Formal inaugural ceremony would be somewhere at the end of December 1997
or early January 1998 depending upon the availability of Mr. Sebastian Rahtz
of Elsevier Science, London who has kindly agreed to inaugurate  TUGIndia.
